PENANG: A report released by the International Food Policy Research Institute and the WorldFish Centre warns that fish consumption in developing countries will increase by over 50% in the next two decades, resulting in escalating fish prices and the threat of diminishing fish populations in the sea.
It projects that fish consumption in developing countries will increase from 62.7 million tonnes in 1997 to 98.6 million in 2020 while fish consumption in developed countries will increase by only 4% from 28.1million tonnes in 1997 to 29.2 million in 2020.
