PUTRAJAYA: The Islamic Advancement Department (Jakim) has uncovered a syndicate whose members posed as its officers to con businessmen into paying exorbitant sums to get halal food certificates for their premises.
Jakim deputy director-general (operations) Che Min Che Ahmad said apart from charging up to RM1,800 for each certificate, the syndicate was also believed to be involved in collecting donations from companies already issued with the certificates.
