KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah has refuted claims that some of its professors and students were involved in pornography.

“We have investigated the claims and found no truth to it at all. We believe pornographic peddlers are using our name to sell their products,” UMS Vice-Chancellor Tan Sri Dr Abu Hassan Omar said after the opening of the Association of South-East Asian Institutions of Higher Learning International Conference here yesterday.

The conference was opened by Deputy Education Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Samsuddin.

Abu Hassan said UMS carried out the investigations after certain people selling pornographic materials here had claimed that lecturers and students of the university were involved in pornographic activities.

Abdul Aziz said if any lecturer were found to be involved, they would face disciplinary action, including expulsion.

He added that similar claims involving other local universities had surfaced from time to time but these were the work of peddlers of pornographic stuff who were trying to sell their products.
