PETALING JAYA: Great ideas on how to drum up exciting and fun English lessons with The Star – this and more will be delivered at Star-NiE’s sixth anniversary celebration workshops over the next two weeks to thank teachers for their support.

UK-based NiE (Newspaper in Education) consultant George Kelly will present a full-of-ideas session on Creativity in the Classroom: Refreshing the Approach of the Teaching of English. He will share the one-day workshops with Star-NiE trainers Lucille Dass and Teh Soo Choo.

The one-day workshops will be held on Sept 25 and Sept 26 in Penang at Golden Sands Resort and Sept 29 and Sept 30 in Petaling Jaya at Sheraton Subang Hotel and Towers, Subang Jaya.

CREATIVE TIPS: Kelly helping out participants at Star-NiE Conference 2002.

Teh and Dass will present Beyond the Book: Bringing Life Experiences into the Teaching and Learning of English.

A “train the trainer” half-day workshop for Mathematics and Science teachers will be held on Oct 2 at Menara Star. Attendance for this session is by invitation only. However, senior subject teachers who are interested in the workshop may call Star-NiE for a place, subject to availability of places (40).

For the full-day workshops, teachers will only be charged a registration fee of RM20 as the workshops are jointly sponsored by The Star and Hotlink from Maxis. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.

Those interested in the Penang workshops should contact Ms Oun at 04-6473883 while teachers who want to attend the PJ workshops should call Customer Care Unit at 03-79671777.
