THIRTY students in a school in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, were jolted with minor electric shocks caused by unsatisfactory repair works done by private contractors in September, last year.

The Auditor-General’s 2002 report produced a photograph of poor earth wiring system done by the contractors at Sekolah Kebangsaan Gual, Sintok, which caused the short-circuit board failing to work properly.

The repair works were done by the contractors engaged by non-technical departments without supervision by the Public Works Department (JKR).

The report also found poor rewiring at other government premises including the General Operation Force camp at Bukit Galing in Pahang and a health clinic in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.

Auditors also noted in the report that all state JKR offices did not update their records on maintenance of electricity at government premises, street and traffic lights except for the Negri Sembilan office.
