IPOH: Want the police to arrive at a crime scene promptly? Then contact their officers in charge of the housing estates.

OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Abdullah said yesterday the people should not go to the police station immediately to lodge reports but instead contact these officers.

“In the past, we have found that the people only lodge reports or inform us of a crime much later because they think it would be a hassle to do so.

“By the time our police team arrives at the scene, they find that the criminal has long left the housing estate and sometimes even the district and state, thus hampering our investigations,” he said in launching the Konstable Masyarakat programme at Ipoh Garden East.

“We urge the public to contact the police officer in charge immediately so that we may carry out investigations, conduct manhunts, mount roadblocks and so on,” he said.

The brainchild of Perak police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Amiruddin Embi, the programme covers Ipoh North and Ipoh South.

Ipoh North includes Sungai Senam, Bercham, Chemor, Kg Rapat, Ampang Baru, Kg Tawas, Tanah Hitam, Kanthan Bahru, Tambun, Kg Simee and Tanjung Rambutan and the central police station area.

The programme covering Ipoh South was launched on Saturday .
