ENFORCEMENT officers in various agencies will enjoy the same benefits and remuneration provided to security personnel and their families in the event they are injured or die in the line of duty.

They would also be supplied with appropriate equipment while on duty to ensure their safety.

To overcome the spate of crimes including hijacking, piracy and gangsterism like the Tonto menace, robberies and thefts, the Government would review several departments of the Royal Malaysian Police to increase and strengthen security and enforcement and increase their capacity and effectiveness through the provision of equipment and special training.

In line with this, the police would step up security surveillance throughout the country and the Government would also set up a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Force to increase surveillance in waters such as the Straits of Malacca.

To provide a safe environment for the public and businesses, the Government would set aside RM4.4bil for the operating expenditure of internal security while another RM6.5bil would be allocated to the Defence Ministry.

An allocation of RM750.5mil and RM2.1bil would also be provided for equipping and modernising the defence and security systems.
