PETALING JAYA: Live telecasts of cultural events help promote awareness among Malaysians about the different racial groups, said Information Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai.

“It helps make Malaysians more tolerant and understanding towards different races and their festivals,” he said last night after attending the MCA PJ Selatan Pesta Tanglung 2003.

He cited the live telecast over RTM of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi attending the Lantern Festival 2003 tonight as an example of increasing awareness on such traditional events.

Lim, who is also Selangor MCA deputy chairman and PJ Selatan assemblyman, said cultural events helped support non-governmental organisations, which organised them.
