KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian economy grew by a better-than-expected 4.4% in the second quarter compared with the same period last year, at a time when the economy was struggling with the impact of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and uncertain external environment.
“The economy is expected to strengthen in the second half of this year,” Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz said during a briefing yesterday on the second quarter economic performance.
