COLOURFUL OPENING: Endon and Adbul Kadir launching Batik Mystique Night while the Dalian models look on at the Malaysian Tourism Centre in Kuala Lumpur last night.

KUALA LUMPUR: After having put up two spectacular shows for the KL Fashion Gala Dinner here, the Dalian models took the opportunity to enjoy Malaysian culture.

The models were impressed by a fashion show featuring outfits made from Malaysian batik and a cultural dance held in conjunction with a dinner themed Batik Mystique Night hosted by the Culture, Arts and Tourism Ministry last night.

Model Li Xue said she was impressed by the show, which highlighted the uniqueness of the different Malaysian communities.

“There were so many costumes and dances on stage. The one I liked most was the bamboo dance.”

Another model Liu Fengcheng said he felt at home here, adding: “I enjoy everything from the food to the shows.”

Liu said he particularly enjoyed the performance by Anita Sarawak who pelted out two songs during the event.

The dinner was one of the programmes organised in conjunction with KL Fashion Extravaganza 2003 to promote Malaysia as a shopping haven.

Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, attended the function in Saloma Restaurant at Malaysian Tourism Centre.

In welcoming the Dalian models, Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir said he hoped there would be more efforts to promote an exchange of fashion talents with foreign countries.

“We can introduce our products to foreign talents by inviting them to perform here,” he added.
