High Court judge Justice Muhamad Ideres Muhamad Rapee fixed the hearing for Sept 15 to 19.

He also allowed an application by the prosecution to have Ahmad’s murder and rape trial heard together.

DPP Salehuddin Saidin said the application was necessary as the trial, which received nationwide media coverage, was of public interest.

Ahmad Najib’s counsel Mohamad Nadzim Ibrahim did not object.

Lawyer Karpal Singh, who held a watching brief for Ong’s family, also said he did not object as the prosecution’s application was done within the law.

The rape charge was then read to Ahmad Najib and he is alleged to have raped Ong at the same place, date and time as the alleged murder.

He replied: “Saya tidak mengaku salah tuan” (I plead not guilty sir).

Present at the High Court yesterday were Ahmad Najib’s wife as well as Ong’s parents and sister Elsie Ong Lee Ching.

Ong, who would have turned 29 about two weeks ago, went missing at the Bangsar Shopping Complex on June 13. Her charred body was recovered from a manhole in Old Klang Road on June 17.
