THE controversy over the use of the short messaging system (SMS) in seeking a divorce has prompted calls to tighten the Islamic Family Laws to avoid similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Utusan Malaysia reported Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil as saying that while amendments to the laws were necessary to avoid confusion among Muslims, it would also help to ensure that non-Muslims did not get the wrong impression of Islam.
