KUALA TERENGGANU: Supporters of opposition parties who obtain loans under the Entrepreneur Development Ministry and brag about it will face stiff action.

Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz said he was not scared to take action against those concerned even if it becomes a political issue at the next general election.

He said he did not want the matter to trigger resentment among supporters of the ruling Barisan Nasional.

“I will be questioned as to why loans were given to opposition supporters.

“But the point is, I want all eligible applicants to receive the ministry’s aid irrespective of their political affiliations,” he said, when addressing about 70 loan recipients of the Terengganu Entrepreneur Fund here, yesterday.

The fund which is managed by Bank Pembangunan & Infrastruktur Malaysia Bhd, which is under the purview of the ministry.

Mohamed Nazri urged Malay entrepreneurs to repay their loans and to discard the attitude that the loan need not be repaid as it was the Government’s money.

Elaborating on this at a press conference later, he said the ministry would continue to harp on the repayment.

He said Malays were known for their eagerness to apply for loans and their reluctance to repay the money.

To change this negative perception, he said they must do the exact opposite – that is to repay the loans, he said.

“Recipients who cannot repay the loans should meet up with the officials concerned to discuss the matter instead of disappearing,” he said.
