SHAH ALAM: An assistant manager of a local telecommunications company changed his plea to not guilty in a magistrate’s court here yesterday to a charge of possessing 503 pornographic VCDs.

Kannan Raja Mannickam, 41, had on June 6 pleaded guilty in the same court to possessing the pornographic VCDs at his house at Jalan Pauh 4/7B, Section 4, here.

He was charged under Section 5(2) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 for committing the offence at 2am on June 4 and was to receive his sentencing from Magistrate Surita Budin yesterday.

However, Kannan, who was represented by counsel Ayasamy Velu, changed his plea and claimed trial when the charge was read out to him.

Surita set the trial date for Sept 25 and ordered that the period for the RM6,000 bail imposed on the accused be extended till the case is completed.

The penalty for the offence is a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000 or a jail term of up to five years or both.
