JKR float wows crowd at jubilee parade

KUCHING: The state Public Works Department (JKR) entry stole the show and grabbed the “Float of the Night” title in the colourful procession along the Sarawak River. 

It walked away with the top prize of RM15,000 in the competition that was one of the highlights of the state’s ruby jubilee celebrations on Wednesday.

Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (Sesco) and Housing and Development Ministry took the second and third prizes ofRM12,000 and RM10,000 respectively. 

Thousands of people thronged the riverbanks to watch the parade that also featured dozens of perahu tambang (river taxi). 

The procession started from the Petanak Market and ended at the waterfront where state leaders and foreign guests witnessed the event.
