ALOR STAR: Padi farmers under the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada) have been told to buck up and improve their yield in keeping with the billions of ringgit in allocation spent for padi cultivation.
Expressing regret and concern over the low yields for the past 22 years since Mada was set up, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said it was sad that despite the big allocations, the farmers only produced an average of about five tonnes of padi per hectare.
