PUTRAJAYA: Any decision to expel a member of Asean will have to be made based on consensus and Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s statement that Myanmar may be expelled is a reminder to the ruling military junta.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said any decision to expel Myanmar from the 10-member grouping would be a last resort and as far as Kuala Lumpur was concerned, Yangon must release pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi before more pressure was exerted on it.
