PETALING JAYA: Malaysians are in for a unique astronomical experience next month when the planet Mars will be closest to Earth in 60,000 years, said National Space Agency director-general Prof Datuk Dr Mazlan Othman. 

The phenomenon, said Dr Mazlan, would happen at 5.52 pm on Aug 27 when the red planet would be 55,758,006km from Earth.
