Expert: Defending human rights essential in Islam

PUTRAJAYA: The concept of human rights is not only compatible with Islam but the religion also makes it a duty for all Muslims worldwide to defend it as kindness and full equality are two basic elements in Islam.  

Director of the Institute for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World based in the United States, Dr Fathi Osman, said recognising and defending the rights of every human being was specifically essential for weak individuals or groups such as women, children and all victims of aggression.
