Penang hosts 'Battle of Chefs' again

PENANG: Penang is once again playing host to the Ninth Penang International Salon Gastronomique 2003, which kicked off at the Penang International Sports Arena (Pisa) in Relau here yesterday. 

Organised by the Chefs Association of Malaysia (Penang Chapter), the three-day event, popularly known as the Battle of the Chefs, is being held in conjunction with the Penang Food and Fruits Fiesta 2003.

Some 200 chefs from Malaysia and Singapore are competing in 25 categories, which include Penang char koay teow, Nescafe tarik, styrofoam carving, fruits and vegetable sculpting, bartender’s competition, roti canai and wedding cake. 

They are being judged by 29 international judges from several countries including Mexico, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. 

The Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas opened the biennial event.
