Kadir 'very sorry' to lose Ng as deputy

PETALING JAYA: Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir is “very sorry” to be losing Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen as his deputy because she did such a good job at the ministry. 

“She increased the number of Chinese tourists to Malaysia from 190,000 a year to half a million within two to three years,” Abdul Kadir said yesterday after launching the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Conference 2003. 

“She mixed around well and yam seng (toasting with alcohol) her way all over China. The Chinese just loved it because they did not know one could yam seng in an Islamic country,” he added.

“We worked very well together and I am very sorry to lose her,” he said.  

Dr Ng, who is also Wanita MCA chief, is now Deputy Finance Minister II. Her previous post has been taken over by International Trade and Industry parliamentary secretary Datuk Fu Ah Kiow.
