KUALA LUMPUR:Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik said he will be very happy to assist Datuk Chan Kong Choy when the latter takes up the post of Transport Minister next week.
“If he needs for me to give him a broad overview of what the Transport Ministry entails, I will be very happy to assist him to shorten his learning time,” said Dr Ling who is on leave till the end of the month as the Transport Minister prior to his resignation taking effect.
He said Chan’s learning curve would be much shorter and there would be no time wasted learning all over again.
Dr Ling was responding to questions on Chan’s new position as Transport Minister after a Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) joint-cheque presentation by Maxis Communications Bhd, Tanjong Plc and Measat Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd at the All-Asia Broadcast Centre yesterday.
When asked if he had met up with Chan after the appointments were announced, Dr Ling said it was too soon as Chan had to be sworn in and gazetted as a minister first.
“But if he wants a quick run down, he is welcome to do so, as we are working for the party and country’s interest,” he added.
To another question, he said MCA was grateful to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad for appointing an additional deputy minister’s post for the party.
Datuk Donald Lim, who was the Transport Ministry’s parliamentary secretary, was appointed Deputy Transport Minister.
When asked if the present line-up indicated a balancing act by Dr Mahathir for the two factions in the party, he said there were no more factions in the party.
“When you see him (Dr Mahathir) accept everyone as MCA, surely it is quite balanced? I am not surprised with the line-up. I think everyone wants to give the young leadership a chance to succeed,” he said.
