KANGAR: Thai police have drawn sketches of five assassins, who stabbed and killed a Malaysian trader at the VIP ward of a private hospital in Haadyai on Saturday.

The sketches were based on CCTV footage of the hospital's corridors, walkways and entrances.

A Thai police spokesman said the identities of the five were still being investigated while the Thai newspapers were speculating that they were hired hitmen from Malaysia.

Thai police have also alerted the Malaysian Immigration and Customs departments to be on the watch for the five.

Kee Tick Leng, 42, who was scheduled to be discharged on Monday was killed by five men who boldly stormed into the VIP ward. They overpowered his brother-in-law Songkran Jaisuk before stabbing Kee.

Kee from Sungai Besar, Selangor, and his Thai wife Waraporn Kee Riong, 24, were warded at the hospital at their relatives request after the couple were wounded when a lone gunman shot them at their residence in Haadyai.

The only breakthrough in the case so far has been the discovery of the getaway Proton Wira 1.6 bearing the registration number WHS 6740, which was found abandoned at the Big C shopping mall parking area in Haadyai on Monday.

The hospital has surrendered all documents pertaining to Kee’s death, including visitor records and CCTV videos to the Thai police.

It is believed that the hitmen were part of a hit squad, who slashed and shot dead Kee’s younger brother Tick You, 36, in front of his family in Selangor on the same day Kee was shot some two weeks ago.
