JOHOR BARU: The grammar-structured approach of teaching English in schools and higher learning institutions usually leads to the students getting bored, says an academician.
Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka director-general Datuk Abdul Aziz Deraman said the approach did not motivate the students, causing them to lose interest in learning the language. He said teachers should not stress on grammar alone but on communication skills as most students had little confidence to speak in English.
