KUALA LUMPUR: Members of Umno Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings and a choir consisting of 200 students from various schools in the Klang Valley took part in the Umno flag-raising rehearsal yesterday.

The event is in preparation for the opening of the party’s 57th general assembly scheduled for June 19 at the Putra World Trade Centre.

Umno executive secretary Datuk Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor watched the rehearsal which was assisted by some actors.

It began with the beating of the rebana ubi and kompang to welcome one of the actors who posed as party president Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Adnan, who took on the role of Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Khalil Yaakob then accompanied “Dr Mahathir” to the stage before the inspection of a guard-of-honour mounted by Kapt Suznan Saad and 57 members each from the three wings of the party.

After the inspection, other actors who posed as Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz, Umno Youth chief Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein and Puteri chief Azalina Othman Said accompanied “Dr Mahathir” to the stage to raise the flag.

This was followed by the singing of party songs, Bersatu Bersetia Berkhidmat and Umno Teras Negara

Other actors also took on the roles of deputy Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and supreme council members during the rehearsal.

The rehearsal, which began at 10am, was repeated several times, finally ending at noon.
