SABAK BERNAM: A Malaysian businessman shot in Haadyai and an odd job worker slashed to death here have been established to be brothers and police are investigating whether a drug syndicate is behind the two incidents.

Police are also checking whether the attackers of odd job worker Kee Tick You are Thais and not locals as initially thought.

Tick You, 36, was shot, slashed and stabbed to death by three intruders at 3.15am on Monday in front of his children at his home in Taman Seri Indah, Sungai Besar, Selangor.

Police confirmed that 42-year-old Malaysian businessman Kee Tick Leng, who has been warded at the Sikarin government hospital in Haadyai, is his brother.

Tick Leng and his Thai wife, Waraporn Kee Riong, 28, were having dinner at home on Sunday night when two gunmen on a motorcycle dashed in and opened fire.

He was seriously injured while his wife had four bullet wounds. She was admitted to the same hospital.

“The news of Tick Leng’s shooting in Haadyai and his blood ties with Tick You has brought a new dimension to our investigation,” said District CID chief Mohd Hisham Kamaruddin.

“We are trying to tie up both the cases to see whether Tick You’s assailants were from Thailand and not locals as we initially thought,” he said.

Preliminary investigations, he said, revealed that Tick Leng was helping his wife in her children’s apparel business.

“We found out that Tick Leng was last seen with Tick You during Chinese New Year in February when he returned home from Haadyai,” he said.

In Kangar, Ian Mcintyre reports that Thai police are looking for witnesses to help in their investigations into the shooting of Tick Leng.
