KUALA PILAH: A 48-year-old odd-job labourer was jailed 18 years jail and ordered to be given 18 strokes of rotan by a Sessions Court here for raping his niece over the past one year, resulting in her delivering a baby boy several days ago.

Judge Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal meted out the punishment when the accused, Jamaludin Zainal, of Johol, pleaded guilty to committing the offence yesterday.

In delivering a decision, Harmindar Singh said: ”As an uncle, the accused should have taken good care of the girl and not take advantage of her.”

Jamaludin was said to have raped the girl, 16, at a house in Felda Serting 4, Air Hitam, Jempol, between June last year and March this year.

Earlier, prosecuting officer Asst Supt Mazupi Abdul Rahman said the accused had been in and out of prison on numerous occasions.
