KUANTAN: Police have arrested a 25-year-old technician said to be involved in the collision that killed eight people at the 33rd kilometre of the Kuantan-Kemaman road near Kampung Sungai Ular.

Kuantan traffic police investigating officer Insp Che Gadapi Daud said the man was the driver of the car and was being held at the Kuantan district police station for questioning.

He added that the driver was issued a summons in 2001 for reckless driving.

“We may charge him if investigations reveal he was driving dangerously,” he added.

Witnesses said the 4pm incident on Saturday occurred when a van coming from Kemaman tried to avoid an oncoming car that was overtaking the trailer.

Those killed were returning to Batu Berendam, Malacca after attending a wedding.
