ALOR STAR: The Jitra Hospital director has admitted negligence in a RM100mil lawsuit filed by a 50-year-old housewife who was given HIV-contaminated blood three years ago.
Jagdeep Singh Deo, the housewife's counsel, said senior federal counsel Amarjeet Singh had informed high court registrar Ahmad Sazilee Ahmad Khairi about the matter in his chambers yesterday.
Ahmad Sazilee fixed July 2 for assessment of damages for the woman, he said.
The hospital director was named as first defendant in the suit. The woman also named the state Health Department director as second defendant, the Health Minister as third defendant and the Government as fourth defendant.
The other plaintiffs were her 49-year-old husband and their children, who were between 12 and 21 years old, at the time of the incident on April 29, 2000.
Jagdeep Singh said the evaluation for the other five plaintiffs would be made on Sept 2 and 3 before Justice Datuk Hassan Lah at Alor Star High Court.
