BESUT: Folks here can expect better medical care under the RM12mil upgrading of the health clinic which is expected to begin next year and completed within 18 months.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Suleiman Mohamad said among the new services to be provided were outpatient treatment, dental care and expanded scope of services such as elderly health and adolescent health.

“The clinic is currently only offering maternal and child healthcare services such as ante-natal, post-natal, pap smear and infant care,” he said when opening the Besut Health Camp at SMK Putra, Darau in Jerteh recently.

He said the ministry was implementing several projects in Jerteh under the Eighth Malaysia Plan.

Among them was the RM9mil operating theatre at the Besut Hospital which was almost completed.

He said the Desa Kampung La Clinic project costing RM820,000 was also almost completed. It replaces the rural clinic, which was damaged by floods three years ago.

Dr Suleiman said other projects were the setting up of the RM820,000 Beting Lintang rural clinic, upgrading of the KD Tembila clinic costing RM820,000 and the RM320,000 Pasir Akar mobile dental clinic.
