KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign diplomats praised the Government for its containment of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) which they say not only protected the health of its people but also its economy.

Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Marek Paszucha lauded efforts to protect the country from global terrorism and the role Malaysia played in international co-operation on the issue.

Paszucha, the Polish ambassador to Malaysia, said the Government had also made extensive efforts in fostering Islamic solidarity in South-South co-operation.

He was also impressed with the measures taken recently to boost the economy, he said at the investiture in conjunction with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail’s 60th birthday celebration here.

Paszucha, who has been in Malaysia for seven years, expressed the diplomatic corps' admiration for the Government’s remarkable moves in securing sustained and sustainable economic growth.

He read part of his speech in Bahasa Malaysia, thanking the King for his hospitality to the diplomatic corps. – Bernama
