KUALA LUMPUR: The National Registration Department (NRD) has directed all its branches to stay open during lunch breaks if necessary to serve the public.
Its public relations officer Rene Harlene Drahman said if there were many people waiting to be attended during lunch hour, branch managers should use their discretion to comply with the directive.
She said the number of people visiting NRD branches had increased tremendously and at certain branches especially in the Klang Valley it had risen by 150% over the last year.
However, she added that counters for Mykad collection would stay open regardless of the situation at lunchtime.
“The NRD has received lots of applications for Mykad and the department has hired more staff to cope with the increasing demand,” she said.
She said the people were served according to their Q-matic numbers, on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Kajang branch received about 400 applications daily and about 300 people turned up to collect their Mykad.
