BANTING: Kuala Langat MCA members rallied together to raise RM412,888.88 for the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) fund on Friday night.

MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting lauded the division members for their support of Utar and the educational needs of the community.

Speaking at the fund-raising event at Dewan Jenjarom, he thanked the contributors for backing efforts of the past 33 years to set up an institution for tertiary education.

“It is good to know that not only the Chinese are supporting Utar but even our fellow Malays and Indians have come forward to contribute to the fund that would help us provide education at a reasonable fee.”

Ong said he was glad to see party members coming together for the common good of the community.

“This is my first official political function with MCA members and what I see is a spirit of unity and a promise for the betterment of the party,” said Ong, who took over from Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik.

Earlier, he received a cheque for the amount collected from Telok Datok assemblyman Datuk Ei Kim Hock.
