Poultry ban 'in the interest of public safety'

MALAYSIA has banned the import of ducks and chickens from China to curb Avian Influenza from spreading into the country, Sin Chew Daily reported on its front-page yesterday.  

The report quoted Veterinary Department director-general Datuk Dr Hawari Hussein that the order was implemented since May 22 following confirmation that the Chinese farm produce exported to Japan contained influenza viruses.
