CUEPACS president Datuk N. Siva Subramainam has urged developers to build more housing units for the poor and the lower-income group, Tamil Nesan reported yesterday.

Siva, who is also secretary-general of the National Union of the Teaching Profession, said Cuepacs welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s proposal in his recent economic stimulus package to build homes for the poor.

He urged developers to take advantage of the benefits under the package to build more of such houses.

Malaysia Nanban highlighted the call by Hilir Perak residents to expand dental services at government clinics including district hospitals.

It said the clinic in Jalan Putra, Teluk Intan, used to provide a six-day service, but has been reduced to three days.

The daily said this had inconvenienced the poor, especially children, who had to bear the pain for days before they could receive treatment.
