PETALING JAYA: The DAP has urged the National Registration Department (NRD) to set up a special MyKad counter to cater to the elderly and parents with young children.
DAP said this would expedite the application process for this group of people.
Its national publicity bureau assistant secretary John Chung said NRD had recently reported an overwhelming increase in applications for MyKad from 9,000 to 20,000 daily.
The NRD will set up more counters at branches nationwide and employ more staff and will also open counters during lunch hour to cope with the numbers.
“The NRD should also fix a certain quota for applications that can be processed daily if the number is too large,'' he said.
Chung said the rest of the applicants should then be given a specific date for their applications to be processed.
