PENANG: Mangrove areas will be extinct in Penang by 2020 if the current rate of destruction is not checked, said a Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) don.
Environmental biologist Prof Gong Wooi Khoon said there was an urgent need to stop the destruction of mangrove areas to preserve the valuable ecological treasure for future generations.
