KUCHING: Housewife Phang Lian Hiong is not only a regular blood donor but the mother of four has also pledged to donate all her organs.Â
Giving blood is one way to show we care for our fellow Malaysians. It also makes me feel young and happy, said Phang, who has donated 20 pints of blood over the years.Â
She will be among more than 2,000 recipients of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society's (Kuching Chapter) annual blood donors awards presentation at the City South Council hall here today. Â
Phang said she signed up as an organ donor after reading a newspaper report that the late Chinese Premier Deng Xiao Ping had donated his organs when he died.Â
Previously, l did not know that organs of a dead person were of use to others.Â
So it is better to give them away if they can help other Malaysians undergo transplant operations, she added.Â

She said life would be more meaningful if she could help bring cheer to others.Â
Phang has also encouraged her children, aged 18, 21, 26 and 28, to pledge their organs.Â
Initially, my children did not agree with me in pledging my organs. But my two sons are now convinced and have signed as my consent witnesses in the organ donation form.Â
This will make sure that when l die, my organs will be donated without any objection from my family, she added. Â
