MAJOR Chinese associations including the Federation of Chinese Associations and the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry reacted positively to the RM8.1bil economic stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Wednesday.
Major Chinese dailies including Nanyang Siang Pau, Sin Chew Daily and China Press reported that with the exception of associations representing taxi and tour operators, major Chinese organisations supported the package, saying that the plan would help mitigate the impact of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak, Iraq war and world economic condition.
