KUALA LUMPUR: A 16-year-old youth has been arrested for distributing pornographic video compact discs (VCDs) at a shop in Jalan Genting Klang here.

The youth was detained when a police party raided the shop and seized pirated VCDs, including those with pornographic content from him late on Monday.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Kamaruddin Mat Desa said another police team from the commercial crimes unit had earlier raided a premise in Cheras Business Centre here and recovered about 45,000 copies of digital compact discs (DVDs) and VCDs.

The discs, which were to be distributed to traders at night markets and warehouses in the Klang Valley, included X Men 2, Johnny English and The X Files

He said some of the discs did not possess the ‘B’ certificate from the National Film Censorship Board to indicate they were original copies while others were pirated and pornographic.

To date, police have seized more than 334,800 copies of pirated VCDs and DVDs and arrested 59 people, aged between 16 and 35.

SAC Kamaruddin said a total of 58 people had been charged in court.

In Kota Baru, the Domestic Trade and Consumers Affair Ministry’s Kelantan enforcement division seized 1,345 pirated VCDs, including pornographic VCDs in an operation here on Monday.
