PENANG: A storeroom belonging to a pornographic film peddler was raided and about 4,000 VCD copies of such films worth RM40,000 were seized in Taman Sri Rambai, Bukit Mertajam, on Sunday.

The film peddler, nicknamed Blue King, was not in the double-storey shophouse when a state Commercial Crime branch team with PMP Entertainment officers raided the premises at 3pm.

The team had been monitoring the place for a few weeks.

The storeroom was only accessible via an entrance disguised as a cupboard and only known to a selected few. The team had to force open the door with a crowbar to gain entry.

Investigations found that Blue King, who has been identified, has been operating for quite some time.

Police are tracking him down.

It is learnt that the man could be the main distributor of the “much sought after” pornographic VCD entitled Kehidupan Seorang Pramugara Yang Terlampau (The Excessive Lifestyle of a Steward) featuring a former Malaysia Airlines steward.

The VCD titles seized on Sunday featured actors and actresses from Japan, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and Sweden. They were meant for local distribution and to neighbouring states.

George Town police also seized more than 100 such VCDs worth over RM1,000 in Macalister Road with the arrest of two men, aged 22 and 27, on Friday night.

Pirated VCD retailers who are feeling the heat following the police's constant raids over the past week have chosen not to trade or are drastically cutting their business hours.

A check by The Star found that some retailers would open for business at 7pm and close by 8.30pm as the police usually conduct their raids around this time.
