KAMPAR: The sounds from the MCA's Caring and Sharing Choir won the heart of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the opening of Tunku Abdul Rahman College branch campus here yesterday.
The choir, led by Datin Seri Ena Ling and Puan Sri Lee San Choon, rendered five numbers – Together Right From The Very Start, a special dedication to Abdullah, Getaran Jiwa, Moving in the New Era, Flower Festival Song and Autumn Song.
A smiling Abdullah thanked the choir, saying that he had paid attention to the lyrics of the songs.
“They sang Getaran Jiwa in such a bright, cheerful and happy manner. Thus, I feel MCA is now in good condition,” he said at the opening yesterday which was witnessed by over 10,000 people.
In jest, he said TARC graduates also liked to join politics and singled out three of them – vice-presidents Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting and Datuk Chan Kong Choy and Subang Jaya State Assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng.
They were politicians who were good administrators and hopefully, they would become good examples of patriotic leaders who love and protect the country, Abdullah said.
The special song for Abdullah, with the patriotic theme, was written by MCA central committee member Datuk Dr Sak Cheng Lum who was among the choir's five lead singers. The others are Ling Hee Keat, Leonard Tan, Peter Ong and central committee member Datuk Hon Choon Kim.
At 11.30am, Abdullah, accompanied by MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik, touched a button to eject a plaque where he signed to mark the opening of the campus.
Also present at the ceremony were Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali and other officials.
