TAIPING: Grand old lady Lim Khoo Chai, who is a 112-years-old, may not know what Mother's Day is all about, but her family is getting together to celebrate it with her in appreciation of all the sacrifices she has made for them.

Born in 1891 in a shophouse in Jalan Taming Sari here, Lim has three children, 25 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

“What is Mother's Day?” the healthy and friendly centenarian asked her eldest daughter Low Kim Lan, 68, when queried how was she going to mark the event.

Low, a housewife, said the family would take Lim out for dinner.

In her younger days, Lim worked as a babysitter and a cleaner to bring up her three children.

“My mum got married when she was in her 40s. She was the breadwinner as our father was an opium addict,” said Low.

Lim's granddaughter Chin Suan Choo, 26, said her grandmother took good care of them and loved them very much.

Asked to make a Mother's Day wish, Lim smiled and said: “To see my grandson get married and my family members by my side.”
