SEREMBAN: A Sessions Court here sentenced a 19-year-old teenager to five years’ jail for sodomising an 11-year-old boy in Simpang Durian, Jelebu, in January.
Shamirzal Shamsuddin of Kampung Jerang in Simpang Durian, Jelebu, was, however, spared the rotan.
Clad in a red T-shirt and faded jeans, the accused appeared remorseful over his action and appealed for leniency as he was “not in the right frame of mind” during the incident.
In passing judgment, Judge Supiah Meon said the offence was “very serious,” adding that this offence was happening “once too often.”
“The court opines that a deterrent sentence must be meted out as the crime was committed against a 11-year-old boy in school uniform.
“As the case is of public interest, the accused is sentence to five years' jail from the date of his arrest,” she said, adding that it would run concurrently with the one-year jail term which he was serving for escaping while under in police custody.
Earlier, prosecuting officer Asst Supt A. Munusamy pressed for a deterrent sentence to commensurate with the gravity of the offence.
