KUANTAN: Thousands of residents from Kuantan and the neighbouring district of Kemaman in Terengganu thronged to meet TV3 personalities at the Karnival TV3 2003 – Sure Heboh held in the MPK field here yesterday.

Some 18,000 people turned up, some as early as 8am although the official launch was scheduled for 2pm.

Organised in conjunction with TV3’s 19th anniversary celebration, the carnival was a “birthday present” to all viewers, co-partners and media buyers who had supported the station over the years.

State Culture, Arts, Tourism and Women’s Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Maznah Mazlan said Pahang was proud that the event reflected the close relationship between the private sector and the Government.

She added that the state government would be holding the Pahang Indah Membangun (Pahang Developing Beautifully) fair from tomorrow to Friday at the same venue and utilising the same facilities set up for the TV3 event.

“Such co-operation between the public and private sectors will also serve to promote the tourism industry,” she said at a press conference after launching the event.

Also present were TV3 chief executive officer Farid Ridzuan, Bukit Fraser Development Corporation general manager Ishak Mokhtar and Tioman Development Authority general manager Hashim Mat Tahir.

The television personalities who took part in the event included Norazlina Redzuan, Zakiah Anas, Azrinaz Mazhar Hakim and Norjuma Habib Mohamad.

TV3 also launched the RM1= One Life fundraising campaign in Pahang for the Malaysian International Peace Fund.

Farid said RM18,000 had already been collected from the Felda management in the state under the campaign.
