KUALA LUMPUR: Producer/director Datuk Yusof Haslam was elected the new deputy president of Film Producers Association of Malaysia (PFM) at its 21st annual general assembly yesterday.

“I accept this new 'job' as the majority of the members want me to represent them. I had no intention to challenge or topple anyone,” he said in reference to Datuk Jins Shamsuddin, the long-serving veteran film-maker and actor, whom he replaces.

“Jins was one of the pioneers of PFM and has contributed much to the development of the association. He gave PFM a new lease of life since its inception in 1981 when he was the president,” said Yusof, of Skop Productions.

The office-holders who retained their posts unchallenged were Tan Sri Kamarul Ariffin (who has served four terms as PFM president), producer/ director/scriptwriter Pansha (treasurer) and veteran film-maker/actor Mustapha Maarof (secretary-general).

Mahyidin Mustakim of Pesona Pictures was made assistant secretary.

The committee members now consist of producer Ruhani Rahman of Nizarman (M) Sdn Bhd, producer/ scriptwriter Habsah Hassan of Serangkai Film, producer Ida Rahayu of Eurofine (M) Sdn Bhd and Datuk Meswan Dol.
