KUALA LUMPUR: A logo and song will be used to further increase awareness among the public about the national service programme, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“We want to achieve the Government’s objective of having patriotism, unity among races, national integration and a positive attitude using good morals,” he yesterday when announcing the song and logo competition at his ministry.

The national service theme song is intended to introduce the programme to the public and will be broadcast over radio and television.

“Besides this, another song known as the marching song will be composed and sung during exercises to increase enthusiasm among the participants,” he added.

The song, he said, would be picked from five composers who would submit their entries to the Cabinet committee on national service.

“The criteria is that it must be an original composition. An evaluation team has also been formed to access the entries based on the criteria,” he added.

The logo competition is divided into two categories: schoolchildren aged between 13 and 18, and the public.

First prize for the former category is RM1,500 while the main prize for the latter is RM5,000.
