TELUK INTAN: Umno Youth is targeting Felcra and Felda land schemes in its membership and voter registration campaign, its chief Datuk Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said yesterday.

He said the movement would also focus on youth clubs in the campaign undertaken jointly with Puteri Umno.

“For this, Umno Youth vice chief Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir and his Puteri Umno counterpart Noraini Ahmad have been appointed joint chairmen,” he said.

The move was a follow-up to a campaign launched last year, which had not been encouraging because of certain weaknesses, he told reporters after opening a Teluk Intan Umno Youth division delegates meeting here.

He said the weaknesses would be overcome this time and Umno Youth would draw up programmes to take it closer to the younger generation.

Asked about MCA's internal problems, Hishammuddin said he believed the matter would not affect the image and credibility of Barisan Nasional Youth.

“Outside parties, including Barisan Youth, should not interfere in the leadership crisis but should hope for it to be resolved amicably through the party channel,” he said.

Hishammuddin, however, said he was prepared to help resolve the issue if it dragged on and jeopardised BN Youth.

“As BN Youth chief, I am duty bound to do so to protect the integrity of BN,” he said. – Bernama
