KANGAR: Malaysian Indians have been urged to donate towards the establishment of the MIC-initiated Asian Institute of Medical and Science Technology (AIMST).
MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said all Indians should take up the challenge to help fund the institution of higher learning for the future generation.
They and not just MIC members, should donate. This is for the sake of their children, Samy said after opening the Perlis MIC convention here yesterday.
Also present were deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam, vice-presidents Datuk S. Veerasingam, Datuk G. Palanivel and Datuk K.S. Nijhar, Kedah MIC chairman Datuk V. Saravanan, Penang MIC chief Datuk Dr K. Rajapathy and Perlis MIC chief S. Vengadasamy.
To date, the party had collected RM170mil, way short of the over RM400mil needed to cover the total project cost for the campus in Semeling, Kedah.
MIC branches have collected RM18.5mil, with the bulk from Selangor. In appreciation of the commitment displayed by Selangor MIC branches, one faculty in AIMST will be named Selangor Home, Samy said.
