JOHOR BARU: The Tebrau MCA division has raised about RM400,000 for the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) building fund during a fund-raising dinner here on Sunday.
The amount was from individuals and organisations in the Tebrau parliamentary constituency.
At the dinner, division chairman Goh Wai Wah presented MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik with a cheque for RM400,000 for Utar.
Also present were state MCA chairman Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Jimmy Low Boon Hong.
In his speech, Dr Ling, who is also Transport Minister, said Utar would increase the number of students by 1,000 each year.
He said the temporary campus located in Section 13, Petaling Jaya, and TAR College in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, would not be able to accommodate the number of students expected within the next two to three years.
He said students from 60 independent Chinese schools nationwide could go to Utar to further their studies as it recognised their qualifications.
